Omaha Storm Chasers 11 Colorado Springs Sky Sox 9

Plenty of offense in the the first game of this home series with the two teams combining for 35 baserunners and 20 runs on the evening. Outfielder Jorge Bonfacio hit his third home run of the season, a three run shot while also scoring following a fifth inning double. That run in the fifth was part of a five run inning that featured a two run double from Tony Cruz and RBI double by Dusty Coleman giving the Chasers a commanding 9-6 lead. A couple insurance runs in the 8th inning helped the bullpen hold off a late Sky Sox rally that had the tying runs on base in the ninth against reliever David Huff. The win went to lefty John Lannan despite giving up six runs in the first three innings of the game.

Potomac Nationals 5 Wilmington Blue Rocks 2

Seven up and seven down for the Rocks at home versus Potomac after Saturday’s defeat. Fielding was the main cause of this defeat as four Blue Rock errors lead to four unearned runs and a fourth loss on the season for opening day starter Zach Lovvorn. The righty worked five innings while striking out four, allowing five hits and one walk. The offense packed little punch besides a  Ryan O’Hearn solo home run, his sixth of the season. Outfielder Brandon Downes had his thirteen game on base streak snapped with an 0-4, 3 strikeout night.

West Virginia Power 5 Lexington Legends 1

The Legends squandered another good start from lefty Foster Griffin in this one, getting held to just one run of offense on seven hits due to an 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position. The former 1st round pick gave the Legends seven innings of quality pitching while allowing just three hits but took the loss due to two solo home runs allowed. Following a career best eight strikeout performance Griffin changed his game some, earning 15 groundball outs to just three flyouts while also pounding the zone with 56 strikes out of 84 pitches thrown. The bullpen following Griffin didn’t do their job to keep the game close, allowing three runs in the final two innings.
