I agree 100% about Hosmer. Some guys for some reason make those around him better. Tom Brady and Brett Favre are two recent high profile examples. I think Hosmer is that typoe of guy. No one can explain how or way some people are that way, I just hope the Royals recognize it. Hosmer has increased value to the Royals, for that reason and for PR reasons. He doesn't have $140 million dollars of value, but I do not believe either the Royals or the Padres have made an offer in that ballpark. That is just Boras' game playing in the media.

I like dowwnunderfan's idea on a contract for Hosmer. Back load that sucker so his paychecks go up when Gordon and then Kennedy go off the books and you have a winner.

As for 1B, if Hosmer doesn't come back, I hope we see Dozier out there. He isn't getting any younger and the team needs to know what it has in him. There is no reason for Moss to block his playing time or his roster spot. Moore has ditched more payroll than that before.

Don't forget that Moss could play 1B as well in a lost season. Soler could get regular ABs between OF and DH. If you give Ned too many options, he will somehow leave Soler out of the lineup.
Still hope Royals can get some comp picks to fatten minor leagues. Poor Rs try to tank, and many other teams are using the same strategy. So guys who would have earned comp picks any other year are seeing their values drop. Cain especially deserves better, but Royals do as well.

Good all round Friday Notes, David.
Some say Herrera won't go until the trade deadline. I think that is a big risk for Dayton. His bad 2017 is a burp for now but if he struggles again in 2018, his trade value will plummet. Still think they should pair Herrera with Hammel and work a trade with Braves (may have to take Markakis to offset salary) or Rangers (would they part with Gallo or more likely DeShields?)
If Royals can get Hosmer for 5 years/$90M (with 2 year opt out), I say go for it but don't think Boras will consider it. Any more and I would rather see Royals sign Morrison, Smoak or Duda for a couple years at less than 1/2 the annual salary. Or better yet, let O'Hearn, Schwindel, Dozier and Cuthbert fight it out at 1st for $600k per year. No, none are anywhere as good but they would be fun to watch. And probably won't cost Royals more than 4 or 5 games overall in a season where they are destined to finish in the low 70s for wins anyway.
