I’ve heard from many people who know way more about the television negotiations than I do that the 2018 team doesn’t have much of an impact on what the Royals can get. I’ve seen a lot of people hypothesize that it will, but for a deal spanning 15 years at a minimum, it makes sense that there’s little to no impact from a year or two of losing before it even starts. If anything, getting the darkest years out of the way before the deal would be appealing to the network as they’d theoretically be on the upswing once the deal begins.

I REALLY do appreciate your views on the Royals.

And I agree with most.

But, I see the Escobar, Jay and Duda signings as a very healthy case of "go ahead and earn the spot".
If our prospects can't beat out these replacement level players, maybe they are not the future.

The idea of play them and lets see what they can develop into makes way more sense at AAA than the major leagues.

I like the competitive environment much more than handing a MLB job to someone that has not demonstrated that level of competence at any level.

The only issue is if we can lose more games we get a better draft pick. I know that is how the system is currently set up, but how do you renegotiate a TV contract as the worst team in baseball?

Any free agent who receives a qualifying offer and signs with another team nets their former team a draft pick. The $50 million number is what differentiates between the former team receiving a pick directly after the first round or a pick directly before the third round. So yes, had he signed elsewhere prior to the draft, even for the league minimum, the Royals would have received draft pick compensation for him.

How are the Royals giving up a draft pick by signing Moose?
Wouldn't that only be in play if he was to sign a contract valued over $50m?
Not anywhere on the horizon.
They did not give up any drat pick.
