Sure if he’s added to the staff he’ll have some experience, but the track record of managers with that little experience isn’t great. Of course, there are exceptions, and the sample is small of managers in that boat, but I’d much rather go with someone who has done it before at some level.

Another reason is to try to keep him healthy, and a third is that he wouldn’t be blocking a young arm for the rotation. Fillmyer and Lopez both showed enough ceiling to warrant another long look.
