NW Arkansas Naturals 4 Springfield Cardinals 1
Staumont dominated the Springfield lineup for five innings before a long bottom half of the fifthy by his offense slowed things down and left the hard throwing righty with trouble regaining his arm slot. Both teams were whiffing plenty as the two teams combined for 27 K’s with Staumont earning 10 in those 5.1 innings. Infielder Corey Toups put the Naturals on a board with a double to right-center in the first, driving in Terrance Gore who had walked and stolen second. That one run held up until the fifth when the Naturals piled three run on three singles, a pair of hit by pitches and a bases loaded walk. It was Gore and Toups who got it all started with a single by Gore and one of Toups’ two hit by pitches in the game, both would come around to score in the inning. The Naturals would allow their only run in the sixth before the bullpen locked things down over the final three innings to keep within a 1/2 game of first place.
