From the Vault: Gar Ryness, the Batting Stance Guy (BP KC Episode 35)

Due to the holiday, we took this week off from a live recording, but we dug through the Vault and found a fun interview we did back in 2012 on the old Royalman Report. We’re sharing our chat with Gar Ryness, the Batting Stance Guy – a fun discussion about baseball and fandom and goofing around with the game of baseball.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kansascitybaseballvault/2016/11/17/the-dh-and-a-glance-at-dayton-moores-offseason-record-bp-kc-episode-34.mp3 Since Kendrys Morales signed with Toronto, we talked about how the Royals might fill the DH spot and if they can find the same production by rotating the players they have now…or if they need to go to the market to find a DH. We also talked about some prospect rankings, Dayton Moore’s first […]

Options and Showcases … and Some Politics (BP Kansas City Episode 33)

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kansascitybaseballvault/2016/11/10/options-and-showcases-and-some-politics-bp-kansas-city-episode-33.mp3 Disclaimer: We ended up talking a bit about the Election, so if you want to skip right to the baseball, jump to the 45 minute mark. We didn’t exactly hold back, so if you’re oversaturated with it, feel free to skip this week. The Royals made some decisions on mutual options and other contract […]

Bullpens, Bargaining, Battlestar Galactica (BP Kansas City Episode 32)

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kansascitybaseballvault/2016/11/04/bullpens-bargaining-battlestar-galactica-bp-kansas-city-episode-32.mp3 The 2016 baseball season is over. The Royals have handed over their crown. So now, it’s time to look at the offseason. First, we talked about the evolution of bullpens and if we think the usage of Andrew Miller, Aroldis Chapman, et al signal a new approach to watch for in 2017, or if […]

Debating Upcoming Roster Decisions (BP Kansas City Episode 30)

This week, we wanted to take a look at the upcoming offseason and started by checking out potential departures after 2016. This lead to the potential approach to some mutual options in player contracts, the strategy about issuing the qualifying offer, and the fate of a few players after this season and after 2017.

We also addressed some of the chatter about payroll. The Royals always say payroll will drop, but with most of a contending team returning, can they add to the roster without adding on last year’s payroll?

Finally, we shared thoughts on the current state of the MLB playoffs and news of a potential international draft.

Playoff Deja Vu (BP Kansas City Episode 29)

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kansascitybaseballvault/2016/10/13/playoff-deja-vu-bp-kansas-city-episode-29.mp3 The Cubs’ win over the Giants in Game 4 felt…familiar. So on the one year anniversary of the Royals’ comeback win over the Astros, Jeff and Mike reminisced a bit about Royals comebacks, added a little about bullpen usage, and really just shot the breeze about interesting playoff matchups. We also borrowed a question […]

Let’s Review (BP Kansas City Episode 28)

The Royals season is officially, for real, definitely over, and we now enter playoff baseball withdrawal.

This week, we talked about the weird AL Wild Card game briefly and then discussed some of the surprised and bright spots for the Royals this year. In the second segment, we reviewed our preseason Over/Under predictions as well as our Bold Predictions. We did…so-so, kind of like the Royals year.

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kansascitybaseballvault/2016/09/30/feels-like-the-first-time-bp-kansas-city-episode-27.mp3 The Royals were officially eliminated from playoff contention this week, so we tried to put the 2016 season in perspective as it approaches its end. In the second segment, Jeff and Mike shared their memories of the first Royals game they attended (or, at least, the game they were old enough to remember going […]

Milestones (BP Kansas City Episode 26)

http://www.blogtalkradio.com/kansascitybaseballvault/2016/09/22/milestones-bp-kansas-city-episode-26.mp3 So the Royals are going to miss the playoffs, but the Royals are still giving fans some things to watch out for. Eric Hosmer and Kendrys Morales are aiming to become the second set of teammates in Royals history to each hit 25 homers and drive in 100 runs in the same year, Danny […]
