Omaha Storm Chasers 5 Colorado Springs SkySox 2
Colorado Springs was a house of horrors for Chasers pitching last time through but not so in game one of their series Friday. Starter Jon Dziedzic gave Omaha a quality start with six innings of two run ball, keeping the ball on the ground and earning eight groundouts on the night. The offense capably backed up the Chasers starter by collecting 13 hits and three walks while going 5 for 13 with runners in scoring position. They would score five runs by tallying runs in four different innings. The bullpen would backup Dziedzic with three different pitchers tossing their hat in the ring including reliever Kevin McCarthy who got earned his first Triple-A save.

Sprinfield Cardinals 2 NW Arkansas Naturals 0
Springfield Cardinals starter Daniel Poncedeleon was dominant over 8.1 innings in limiting the Naturals offense to just five hits. Naturals starter Matt Strahm tried to match the effort and did well in his own right, striking out eight over five innings but taking the loss when he gave up a pair of runs in the 3rd. Just five hits and a 1 for 7 with runners in scoring position as the Naturals were blanked.

Carolina MudCats 3 Wilmington Blue Rocks 0
Six singles, a pair of walks and an 0 for 8 with runners in scoring position lead to the Rocks getting blanked in the third game of their series at Carolina. The shutdown made a loser of starter Matt Tenuta who had given his squad a quality seven innings while allowing just one run on six hits and a pair of walks. Centerfielder reached base a couple times and stole his 25th base of the season in the loss.

Augusta GreenJackets 6 Lexington Legends 5
Plenty of hits for a second consecutive night as the two squads combined for 23 hits in game 2 of their series in Augusta. Unfortunately for a second straight night the Legends fell fell to the GreenJackets. Five runs off All Star Emilio Ogando in the first three innings put the Legends behind as the defense didn’t help their pitching, committing three errors to help give up three unearned runs on the night. Five consecutive hitters reaching base in the 5th inning helped Lexington score three runs to get within a run. The Jackets would tack on an important insurance run in the 6th, making the Legends run in the 8th meaningless and handing them another loss.

Idaho Falls Chukars 8 Ogden Raptors 2
The Chukars cruised to an opening night win behind solid starting pitching, poor control from the opponents pitchers. Starter Arnaldo Hernandez showed his usual solid control in tossing five innings of one run ball while limiting to Ogden to just three hits and no walks. The righthander who gets by with just an average fastball has exhibited plus control in his young career, walking just eight over 71 innings last season. It was on last night once again with no walks allowed and 44 strikes on 56 pitches tossed in that time. He would earn the win thanks to nine walks issued by the Raptors pitchers and nine hits by the Idaho Falls offense to yield eight runs in the opener.
