This week, we finally caught up with Clint Scoles to talk about the Royals 2019 draft and the state of the Royals’ farm system. Clint’s insight and knowledge is unmatched, and we’re always glad to have him on. He discussed Bobby Witt Jr., college players in the draft, named a few of his favorite picks, and then talked a bit more about the Royals minor league topics like the struggling lineup in Wilmington and the sudden pitching depth in the system.
You can read Clint’s work at RoyalsAcademy.com and by following him on Twitter at @ClintScoles.
We also talked about All-Star news, some returning players (and departing ones), plus a little look at the news that the Royals might use openers later this year.

While we were away, the Royals added a lot of talent to their organization by way of the MLB Draft. This year, the Royals had the second overall pick in a draft with two huge prospects at the top of the draft. With a team-record bonus, they’ve signed high school shortstop Bobby Witt Jr.
We discussed his profile along with the rest of the Royals’ draft, in particular their focus on college players (for the second year in a row). Aside from Witt, we talked about a few other names selected by the Royals and how things might shake out.
We also discussed Jorge Soler and all-star potential, trade rumors, and career highs. Plus some discussion of Bubba Starling and why we think he’ll reach Kansas City sooner rather than later.

For an expansion team, there are so many important steps. Assembling a front office, building and staffing a scouting department, and determining which farm teams to affiliate with are all vital processes. That leads up to the team’s first amateur draft, the first real chance to stock that farm system. But the step that gets […]
The 2018 MLB Draft is complete which for the Royals means step two in what I’m thinking is going to be a five step process and multiple years towards rebuilding a respectable team. Each draft year is another step with 2017 starting things off, and while Royals fans may not like to hear this, the […]
The Draft signing period has come and gone so what b,etter time to discuss how I would’ve handled the draft for the Royals? While there are a few picks that I agreed with, there are a few others that I would’ve changed. There is a reason that I didn’t do this prior and that was […]
It’s obvious this Royals draft is quite different from drafts in the past as they loaded up with college pitching at the front of the draft. They are telling us that wasn’t the plan but if you watch as many Royals minor league games as I do then you already know how poor the pitching is […]
